Re: Mogelijkheden Emigratie: 2 vragen
Ok, dit is zijn antwoord. En voor de volledigheid: hij zit aan de Faculty of Science, in Chemistry:
In Canada (at least at U of T), a PhD is a combination of both working and studying. I still have to pay tuition fees every year to the university and am required to take a certain number of classes and participate in a seminar series before I am allowed to graduate. I am able to pay part of my tuition with money I receive from the university as a grant for my studies. I am also (fortunately) paid for the research I do. On top of that, I receive my funding through a TA-ship, for which I get paid per hour. I can apply for scholarships from the government to support me as a PhD student. Students who hold these scholarships (at least in my department) do not need to teach, as they get enough money from the scholarship. I'm not sure if arts students are paid as researchers, but they usually have more opportunities to teach.
As to what is required for entry to a PhD, that can be very different from university to university, and even department to department. In the sciences, if a student has a high enough grade as an undergraduate, they can usually apply directly into a PhD program. The first year is usually referred to as an MS/PhD and is probationary. If the first year goes well, then the student can continue on with the PhD. If it goes poorly, the student may be asked to finish up their work and submit a thesis for a Masters (MS). If your grades weren't high enough as an undergraduate, you are usually asked to have completed an MS before you can start a PhD. In arts subjects, it's more common to require an MA before starting a PhD.

Re: Mogelijkheden Emigratie: 2 vragen
Succes!
