Transferral of Medical notes

Our visas have come through. We've secured health insurance (what a ********* nightmare that was). Does anyone have any experience of taking their Dutch medical notes to an American doctor? Will they accept an ad-hoc translation (aka me and google translate and a few long evenings?) or will they only accept official translations?

Do you want medical notes from your general practitioner (huis dokter) or from specialist(s) ?
Do you have a reason dor wanting to takes nots, like an illness or a chronic condition ?
If you have a serious condition you could best ask your specialist(s) to write a letter/letters - in English.

I think it is more important to take MRI's, scans, X-rays. Also results of ultra-sounds, mammograms, colonoscopies, Dexa scans - if these were done already.
Bring the report of the radiologist that read the scan in question. If necessary you can always find a translator in the US and a lot of therms are in Latin.
Lab results from blood, urine etc. if these tests were done.
Sometimes these results have to be re-figured for the US system. No doubt you can find that info on-line.

Futhermore a listing of all medications you are currently taking, but also of meds you took in the past if you can cobble that together.
The brand name as well as the names of the ingredients. (Some brands have different names in the US for what is the same med. Again the internet will be your friend.)

And of course surgery reports if you had any surgery. Plus the result of the pathology if that was done.
Ever had a blood transfusion ? Again, try to get the info.
This type of report you can probably translate yourself - if needed.

Personally I developed the habit never to show a 'new' doctor what another doctor thought or jotted down in my file.
(Unless you have a chronic affliction and it is important to know about the development over the years.)
A US doctor will probably send you for lab work etc. and make up his or her own mind about your health and possible issues.
Doctors will ask you as a first time patient about your health and illnesses you had in the past. Usually they also ask about health of parents, siblings.

So make sure you have all that info ready so you can provide it. Most US doctors are not going to read extensive notes of other doctors is my experience.
I changed doctors/specialists often in the US/Canada - because health insurance changes, moves, husbands job changes, etc. - but no doctor has ever asked me about previous med notes. No doctor I had has ever contacted another doctor for med notes about me.
I no I am not a particularly healthy person.

Maybe others here have different experiences.

Als er niet echt iets speciaals is qua medische voorgeschiedenis buiten een verkoudheid, griep, gebroken been enz., dan zou ik niet eens de moeite doen om die records mee te nemen. Wij hebben voor onze immigratie gewoon een verklaring van onze huisarts gevraagd waarin hij schreef dat er geen noemenswaardige aandoeningen waren waarvoor we onder behandeling waren/in behandeling zijn geweest.
