MartinUpdate on the Tahoe Fire and Avalon Lodge
Dear Marianne
We have had inquiries as to the status of the Tahoe Fire and Avalon Lodge. I want to give you the latest, accurate info.
The Tahoe Fire is contained currently at 70+%. Yesterday and today there has been no smoke in the air. The area that burned is a part of Tahoe that many tourists may not be aware of. It is the Angora Lake area down to Tahoe Blvd at the southernmost tip of the town. If you are familiar with Fallen Leaf Lake--this area is east of Fallen Leaf. The fire came up to Hwy. 89, but did not cross 89.
We at Avalon Lodge give high regards to fire fighters who have worked so hard to stop this blaze. We also offer our deepest sympathies to those people who lost their homes.
Avalon Lodge is fine. Our area is unaffected. We are far northeast of Hwy. 89. The primary area where tourists visit is very far from the fire and unaffected. I am referring to the casino/lake area.
Our thoughts are, that while this has been a terrible event for the peole who have lost their homes--the media has sensationalized the fire making
it sound like "all of Tahoe is on fire". That is NOT true.
When you come up here, you may not even realize where the fire hit. From Avalon Lodge you cannot see the damage of the fires. All festivities for the Fourth of July will continue as Tahoe is now ready to celebrate our victory.
We hope you and your family will visit us again at Avalon Lodge
