parkeren in Yosemite

Het is me gisteren niet gelukt om een campground in Yosemite NP te boeken, dus nu zitten we in Crane flat.
Opzich geen ramp, alleen moeten we nu wel met de camper de valley in richting de shuttle bus en dat was eigenlijk niet de bedoeling ivm alle drukte eind juli/begin augustus.
Mijn vraag is: waar kunnen we het beste de camper parkeren, waar hebben we de meeste kans op een plek?
We begrijpen dat we er vroeg moeten zijn, maar wat is vroeg in Yosemite?
NB We zijn er op 2 doordeweekse dagen, misschien scheelt dat.

hier hetzelfde probleen. In Ys heb je twee grote parkeerterreinen. Maar ik weet niet of die continu open zijn of je der moet voor betalen en hoe vroeg je er werkelijk moet zijn. Ik denk niet veel later dan 07.30 uur

Wij zijn er begin september 2009 geweest, en kwamen toen rond de middag aan bij yosemite.
Vlakbij het visitor center zijn 2 grote parkeerplaatsen. Wij hadden ook smiddags nog plek zat voor onze (RV 9.5m)
Maar zou voor de zekerheid iets vroeger gaan en dan kan ik me niet voorstellen dat je geen plek hebt.

Ze zijn altijd open, en gratis. En vrij groot. Vroeg in de ochtend lijkt het me geen probleem om iets te vinden maar ik heb er zelf geen ervaring mee.

Dan gaan we dus maar vroeg vertrekken, hebben we ook nog wat aan onze dag.
Het is ongeveer een half uurtje rijden.
Misschien eerst maar een parkeerplek voor de camper vinden en dan lekker ontbijten.
Hopen dat de drukte een beetje meevalt. We zijn er doordeweeks, maar ja, soms moet je ook gewoon een beetje geluk hebben; hadden we gisteren met het boeken van de campground in ieder geval niet

Als je voor de grote drukte bij de P bent zal het wel loslopen. Bovendien als je wilt wandelen kun je sowieso beter vroeg zijn ivm de warmte. Voor mensen die met de Glacier Point bus willen en daarom aldaar parkeren dan zou ik de eerste bus nemen (wel reserveren dan ben je zeker van plekje). De eerste bus gaat vrij vroeg, dan is het P geen probleem. Kijk even op de 'maps' die de NPS site van Yos biedt dan kun je zien waar de P zijn in de valley. Wij zagen in 2010 rond 11 aug dat er nog voldoende plek was om 9 uur. Ik zou zeker rond die tijd er zijn.. ook ivm warmte.
Als je gaat wandelen naar Vernall Falls (mist trail) kun je de auto nabij Curry zetten. Dan is het nog een klein stukje naar het begin van de trail.. terug kun je de bus nemen naar de P of even een stopje in het dorp.. voor ijs of zo.
Natuurlijk kun je ook andere dingen doen in de valley. En dan gebruik je gewoon de shuttle waar je gratis in en uit kunt stappen.

Parking: You can park just about anywhere in the eastern half of Yosemite Valley and catch a free shuttle bus to the trailhead near Happy Isles. The nearest parking, however, is at the trailhead parking lot, which is just east of Curry Village. If it's full, try Curry Village, where you can usually find a spot if you're willing to poke around in the back corners of the unpaved section of the lot.

Panorama Trail
Difficulty: This trail rates a 6 out of 10 for the downhill route (Glacier Point to the valley), which is the more popular option not just because it's an easier hike, but because it's far easier to arrange transportation for (see the taking the bus section below for more details). The trail is rocky in places, and descending the stair steps of the Mist Trail can be hard on knees; if yours are cranky, take the Muir Trail down the last portion instead. Although the trail is mostly downhill, after you cross the bridge over Illilouette Creek, you'll climb 700 feet in about a mile and a half (200 meters in 2.5 km) before descending again to the Mist Trail.
Riding the Glacier Point Bus: Most people do this hike one way from Glacier Point to Yosemite Valley, which means parking in the valley and taking the Glacier Point bus from the Yosemite Lodge up to the trailhead at Glacier Point.

"About the bus"
One-way bus tickets cost $25 for adults, $23 for seniors, $15 for kids over five years, and nothing at all for kids under five. The bus leaves the Yosemite Lodge at 8:30 a.m., 10:00 a.m., and 1:30 p.m., and takes a little over an hour to get to Glacier Point. You can buy tickets in advance over the phone at 209-372-1240, or in person at the Yosemite Lodge, the Curry Village check-in desk, or the Tours desk in Yosemite Village next to the market. The tickets desk at the Yosemite Lodge is usually open for longer hours than the other two - from 7:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., generally. If you've already got your tickets, the lodge recommends you show up about 15 minutes before the bus leaves. If you bought your tickets over the phone, they recommend showing up about 45 minutes ahead of time to pick them up, because the lines at the ticket counter can grow long as the bus departure times near. You can buy bus tickets as far ahead of time as you want.
Parking if you're catching the bus from Yosemite Valley: The bus leaves from in front of the Yosemite Lodge, but you can't park there unless you're a guest. Try parking at one of the two large lots in the valley - the day-use lot next to Yosemite Village or the Curry Village parking lot. You can catch free shuttle buses from either of these to the Yosemite Lodge. Better yet, show up a little earlier and walk; Yosemite Valley is one of the world's best places for a stroll. Figure on about 15 minutes to walk from the Yosemite Village lot to the Yosemite Lodge, or 40 minutes to hike from Curry Village.

Ondanks dat wij aankomende jaar niet met de camper, maar met de auto gaan, is deze informatie toch erg nuttig.
