Ik ga vanuit werk op zakenreis naar de Seattle regio. JOEPIE!! Mijn vriendin en ik willen daar natuurlijk het meest van maken en er meteen een road trip aan vast plannen. Er is echter een klein (luxe) probleempje; de definitieve kogel was vandaag pas door de kerk dat het door zou gaan en wij vertrekken vrijdag (14 feb) al!!!
We hebben wel grofweg een route in elkaar geknutseld (seattle en vancouver) en we hebben twee weken beschikking over een auto. Daarna moet ik voor zaken weer terug zijn in Redmond, dus daar moeten we de planning wel op aanpassen.
Nu snap ik dat de tijd Februari niet ideaal is om te gaan (het is in het Noordwesten ook fris en nat) .
We willen er een hele toffe reis van maken en vroegen ons af of de forumleden hier tips hebben welke absoluut de moeite waard zijn. Alle hulp is welkom!!
Oei 14 februari al! Is natuurlijk niet het 'ideale' seizoen. Maar ik denk (weet het niet zeker) dat je bepaalde delen van Olympic NP wel kan bezoeken. Bvb. het deel van de kust met Rialto Beach en Hoh Rainforest, al zal in andere delen nog wel veel sneeuw liggen, vrees ik. De Duck Tours in Seattle stad is heel leuk om te doen (ritje half over land, half door het water).

Heb een tijdje geleden wat tips gekregen van een Amerikaanse collega die daar uit het grensgebied komt. Misschien heb je er wat aan (is in Engels maar neem aan dat dat geen probleem is):
Seattle (and area):
Ride ferry to Bainbridge Island and back if sunny day, great view of Seattle from the water coming back (you can buy a walk on ticket)
Pike Place Market (normal touristy stuff)
Pioneer Square, very interesting ‘Seattle Underground Tour’, gives good history of the city
Space Needle, only interesting for the view
Snoqualmie Falls (a bit of a drive east from Seattle), nice waterfall and known as the setting for the TV series ‘Twin Peaks’
If the weather is nice, the outdoor Olympic Sculpture Park is quite interesting.
On the way to Vancouver (in Washington state):
Everett - home to the largest building (by volume) in the world (I believe!) where airplanes are constructed by Boeing, you can tour the manufacturing plant
If clear and sunny, you can see Mt. Baker at various points along the way north to Vancouver.
Mt. Vernon, producer of most Tulip Bulbs outside of Holland, no need to stop just an interesting fact
Crossing the Border:
Crossing the border: the wait time signs are over the highway as you head into Bellingham (which is quite a long way before the border)
Normally, the better crossing is to exit the main highway (I-5) just before Blaine onto State Rout 543 and take the ‘Pacific Crossing Border’, try to view the sign as you enter Bellingham for wait time. Once across the border you just turn left at the Campbell River Store to go back to the original highway.
Vancouver (and area):
Stanley Park
Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge, North Vancouver (much better than the touristy Capilano Suspension Bridge and Lynn Canyon is free)
Travel on the ‘Seabus’ if staying in Downtown, another way to see the city from the water
Granville Island is great, lots of restaurants and shopping, Great sushi!
